“Somebody Nobody Anybody”

Repost from @marqueeprojects

2022 year in review. For our fifth show of the year (July-Aug too) we presented a group exhibition titled “Somebody Nobody Anybody”.

The pieces selected for this exhibit represented the body as ambiguous, mutable, and polymorphous, by 13 artists working in many different mediums. Some suggested great fluidity in gender, sexuality, and bodily form – and inevitable discussions of personal identity. Some addressed issues of bodily interactions, others posed questions about presentation of the self vs. self-camouflage, and still others presented bodies that may not be quite human. But many of the works inspired considerations that are related to, but transcend, the human body: contemplations on being and not being, the self and its dissolution, and the nature of waking reality. Ultimately, viewers might have been compelled to ask “Who am I?” and “What is my relationship to this physical shell I temporarily inhabit which has no intrinsic identity?”
